ROTEK BACKWASH 50
A versatile filtration solution for domestic and professional installations, combining a large-surface-area pleated cartridge, manual backwashing and a four-position multifunction control valve.
SEDIMENT FILTRATION FOR DEMANDING INSTALLATIONS
The ROTEK BACKWASH 50 is a sediment prefilter designed to reduce sand, rust particles and other suspended solids in water supplies.
It features a washable 50-micron pleated cartridge housed in a 10" x 4.5" Jumbo filter housing, with 1" threaded brass inlet and outlet connections.
Unlike conventional cartridge filter housings, the BACKWASH 50 combines manual backwashing, a reusable filter cartridge and a four-position control valve to simplify routine maintenance.
FOUR KEY ADVANTAGES
The 50-micron pleated cartridge provides an increased filtration surface within a compact housing. Its design helps capture suspended sediments and allows cleaning and reuse.
Allows periodic reverse-flow cleaning of the filter cartridge without unscrewing the housing or removing the cartridge.
Four operating positions: FILTER, BACKWASH, BYPASS and STOP. Select normal filtration, cartridge cleaning, unfiltered water bypass or shut-off.
Double-layer housing, 1" brass connections, front cartridge inspection window and metal wall-mounting bracket.
WASHABLE 50-MICRON PLEATED CARTRIDGE
The filter element features a pleated design that increases the available filtration surface within the cartridge housing.
It is designed for the mechanical filtration of suspended solid particles compatible with its 50-micron filtration rating.
The cartridge is washable and reusable. Replace it when its condition or filtration performance requires replacement.
MANUAL BACKWASH SYSTEM
When BACKWASH is selected, the filter changes the water flow path, directing water through the cartridge in the opposite direction to normal filtration.
The cleaning water carries away some of the accumulated sediments and is discharged through the front 3/8" drain outlet.
This function simplifies routine cleaning, although periodic inspection, manual cleaning or cartridge replacement may still be necessary.
FOUR-POSITION CONTROL VALVE
Standard operating position. Water passes through the 50-micron pleated cartridge to retain suspended solid particles.
Activates reverse-flow cartridge cleaning. Dislodged sediments are discharged through the front 3/8" drain connection.
Allows water to continue flowing to the installation without passing through the filter cartridge. Particularly useful during certain maintenance operations.
Stops water flow through the filter.
DOMESTIC & PROFESSIONAL APPLICATIONS
The BACKWASH 50 can be used as a sediment prefiltration stage in a range of water supply and treatment installations.
Prefiltration of sand, mineral particles and other suspended sediments found in groundwater supplies and private wells.
Installed upstream of a water softener, it helps reduce the entry of particles that may affect control valves, distributors and other components.
An initial sediment filtration stage for suitable installations supplied from storage tanks, reservoirs or surface water sources, before further treatment.
Sediment prefiltration for preliminary equipment protection and compatible process-water systems, subject to the required operating conditions.
Whole-house sediment filtration to help protect pipework, valves and connected equipment from suspended solid particles.
ROBUST CONSTRUCTION & PRACTICAL DESIGN
The BACKWASH 50 features a double-layer housing and a filter head with 1" threaded brass inlet and outlet connections.
A front inspection window allows part of the filter cartridge to be visually checked without opening the housing.
The unit is supplied with a white-coated metal wall-mounting bracket and a black housing wrench for convenient cartridge maintenance.
INSTALLATION & MAINTENANCE
IMPORTANT: Before opening the housing, ensure the filter is properly isolated and depressurised according to the maintenance procedure. Selecting BYPASS or STOP does not, by itself, guarantee that the housing is free from pressure.

The ROTEK BACKWASH 50 is designed for mechanical sediment filtration. It does not remove dissolved salts or guarantee the removal of microorganisms. It does not make unsafe water suitable for drinking on its own. For professional applications, verify compatibility with the required operating conditions before installation.
